So hot and dry above the trees lining the stream, yet it is cool,shady and quiet under the canopy of the trees. I sit on a large mossy rock in the middle of the stream bed. A stream where just a few months ago, after spring rains and winters melting snows, the stream swelled, roared. And sent snaking down the mountain, thundering torrents and waves of black water. Massive gray boulders in place and embedded for a million years, are rolled down the mountain by this mighty rush of water, like a little childs marbles. Large trees whose roots had clung to the stones along the streams banks, lose their grip and are shredded like kindling. Now, there is just a gentle whisper, a hint of water trickling on the rocks below. A green maple leaf, winds it's way down the streams narrow path, and a tree sparrow is singing in the trees nearby.~Yasu July 2012
